I put the baby in a sling and take the dog for an hour long walk to start out. Later, aerobics and toning. It works really well to get rid of baby weight and tone up. You can do both at home and when your baby is napping.
Have fun- and remember it takes time. You'll get there.

I'm also 5 weeks postpartum (congratulations to you!)
I've started *lightly* back into my pilates rountine (I did classes pre-pregnancy) and I see a slight improvement already. I definately recommend getting an exercise dvd - pilates for sure! You don't need any equipment for pilates and I've only ever needed to do 10-15 minutes once a day to see changes in my muscle tone.
Have you had a checkup with the doctor yet? Usually it's done at 6 weeks. They will give you the all clear to do some exercise and might tell you what you can do.
At the hospital after giving birth, they offered free physio classes where we learnt exercises similiar to this - http://parenting.ivillage.com/newborn/nmomcare/0,,lz_2ztw,00.html
Be careful not to do too much too soon, and take it easy.

As others have said, try cardio workouts at home. Get some DVD's and put them in while your daughter is sleeping.
Do you have a stroller? If so, walking is a great exercise that burns fat all over your body. Don't worry if it's too cold where you live. It sounds crazy, but you can get plenty of exercise going to your local mall during the day and walking up and down it several times. That's what many people here do when it's too cold or rainy outside. Good luck!

Your situation sounds exactly like mine. I had my son back in August. My husband is military too so I'm far from my family also. I see from your profile you are originally from Buffalo. I'm from Syracuse. ;) My husband is in the Marines, and we are also stationed in NC. I understand how it feels not to be able to just call up "grandma" or "aunt" so and so to come babysit! :) Taking walks is the only thing we have done so far, but I gained like 55 pounds and haven't lost all of it yet. From what I hear, our base gym is really nice. If you can get someone to watch the baby, you should try and go with your husband. That's what we plan to do after the holidays. (We are taking a trip up to NY to see my family. Yay! ;)) Good luck and God Bless. :)

Try some upbeat, cardio excercise DVDs. They are really great for when the baby is napping and you can be jumping all over the living room burning away calories. Just take a look at WalMart, I really like the ones that incorporate dance moves into them, like salsa and jazz. Good luck with that baby weight, it is a struggle many of us know!

I used to go on post, a lot of women do I would go and run on the tread mill with the baby next to me in the stroller. you need to run and do bike stuff cause cardio is the way to do it, seriously you would be surprised at how many women were at the gym in the middle of the day with babies, just go and check it out

Walking is really great for new moms, and it's a great way to soothe a fussy baby too. I did lots of walking when my daughter was a baby. Carry the baby in a sling (better than weights!), and if it is cold where you are, zip your coat up over both of you.
