Well, if they didn't, you would say, "I can't get any help there."
I'm in retail and we are damned if we do and damned if we don't

I wouldn't call it accosted. They are told to assist customers and ask if they need help or direction to where they need to go. I hardly go into Best Buy and ask every time "where's the microwaves" or "where are the CDs". I have no clue.

Also, I disagree with the poster above. I loved my extended warranty. They replaced my 2 year old MP3 player (the lid wouldn't stay closed). Then they did it again at the end of the 2 year warranty the 2nd time! As far as the $100 to install Internet, you don't have to be a jerk about it. If you know how to install it, great, do so. Some of us are disabled or totally have no idea. The installation includes rigging a phone line from the junction. I loved that. If you don't have the tools or the knowledge, the $100 is a good buy.

It's because they're being forced to. I know cuz I've been a floor associate before. The managers actually WATCH you just to see if you're asking every single person who walks in & you have to act all chipper & hopped up on caffiene. Plus, you get so tired of standing around, you ask them just so you'll have an excuse to walk around so your feet won't hurt as bad. It really sucks.

Yes, they are trying to provide the best customer service by being available to answer questions and/or help you find something. Also, in retail, making eye contact and approaching customers discourages thieves from stealing merchandise or being pick pockets - the thief knows that they are being watched and that someone could identify them.

If you're not a thief, saying "thanks, just looking" will be good enough.

I wish. When I need help finding something the employees are busy in little chat circles, discussing their personal lives. Where's your Best Buy, maybe I need to switch ... or complain ...

Yes. That is why I NEVER go any more to Best Buy or ABC Warehouse or Art Vans. It's like a pack of buzzards descending.

But if they're doingit because they care, that's fine too, I just dislike the ones who do it for commision...

Lady bubbles just wants to look ;_;

Yes, it's so annoying. And then they try to sell the "geek squad" crap. I don't need to pay somebody $100 to come out to my house and hook up my internet.
