I'm 33 and so is my boyfriend. We both make middle-class salaries. He is extremely picky about what he likes, and I know he would enjoy having an iPod. However, we've only been together for 4 months (although we're serious). I want to get him an iPod, which costs $150, but I'm worried it will cost too much and then he'll get me something for $50 and it'll be this big embarrassing moment.
I could also get him games for his PS2 but I don't feel like that's as special.
Anyone have any thoughts about this?

You guys put my head straight. I thought maybe I was going over the top. I got him a favorite cologne that they don't make anymore. I'm sure he'll like it.

I don't know. Being that you haven't been together that long, it is more than I would spend. But ask yourself this, if you break up in March--will you be bitter that you spent too much on him. Or will you be happy that you got him a gift he enjoys and will think of you when you use it?
I ask this b/c so many people keep count of that. I got this guy a great gift 4 years in a row and he got me a lousy scarf. Or hold it over their head in every argument.
You are not in a situation where that is an extreme amount of money. You make plenty and being that he is picky you know it's something you'd really like. So if he gets you something cheaper, and you won't be upset about it, I think thats a great gift idea. But if you'll be upset about it later, don't.
But if it's the awkward moment, don't feel weird about it. Tell him he spends money on other things for you (like dinner and other activities you do on dates) and you got it to make him happy, not to make him guilty.
I think an i-pod is definitely one of those gifts that he would use a LOT and think of you every time he used it.

Don't buy the Ipod...you have not been together that long..I gave my ipod to my boyfriend after being together for 10 months I think at 4 it is too early to spend that much...why not get him his fav. beer with candy and popcorn and movies...or his fav cologne....maybe a gift certificate...plus it is not how much you spend and he spends on you it is the thought

y would it be embarrassing. its the thought that counts right. if u do decide to get him one, upload some of ur guys' songs onto their. that would make it seem a little more personal.
