Kumon is an education center for math and reading. My daughter goes for Math.
Sorry, it is not the same as tutoring or Sylvan, Sylavan is more like a quick fix to address immediate learning defeciancies.
Kumon is a long term learning process, that is based on systematically addressing math and reading deficiencies based on core learning. It will not address immediate needs, if you are deficient it is to develop life-long learning for indepth skills in math and reading. If you have immediate needs for your grade level, you may have to couple Kumon with a tutor. They begin your instruction from the bottom up, way below grade level. It could take a few years to reach grade level deping on how long you have been going to Kumon. My daughther is in Fifth grade, she started this year, she will get through thrd/ fourth grade level with Kumon this year. By the end of school year next year she will be completing 6th grade Kumon level. But when she starts 7th grade, she will be in 8th grade Kumon level. So of course the earlier you start, the faster you get through your grade level. Of course there are four year olds in Kumon, that will start ahead of school level.
So for my daughter, I am also turtoring her in Fifth grade math, to ensure she also addresses her immediate needs.

The Kumon Method, created by Japanese educator Toru Kumon, is the largest Math and Language educational system in the world. As of March 2007, over 4 million children were studying under the Kumon Method at more than 26,000 Kumon Centers in 45 countries. In North America, over 240,000 Kumon students are studying at more than 1,400 Kumon Centers in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S..[
Students do not work together as a class but progress through the curriculum at their own pace, moving on to the next level when they have achieved mastery of the previous level.[2] This sometimes involves repeating the same set of worksheets until the student achieves a satisfactory score within a specified time limit

It is not designed as a remedial program although many seek it out when the school fails the kid.
The reason for the repetition is so that it becomes automatic-mental math. It goes right up through calculus.
Basic philosophy of US school is for the kids to "understand" what they do. This philosophy is to be able to perform the operation, then apply. Just the opposite. Kids I worked with, I was a corrector, who had kept with it more than two years were way above their age group in math.
The key is they break things down into small increments and teach to "mastery" =100%

Kumon is easily a self-getting to know centre, the place they supply you artwork and you do it by using the week. it isn't any longer that undesirable, and plus, it teaches you issues which would be smart in college.

It is a program that kids go to after-school to perfect their math and reading skills by doing repetitious dittos. It helps with speed and accuracy. It's not cheap and you must be willing to apply yourself.
