What is my maximum ram my computer can take?

Question

Crucial.com told me it could only take 384mb but this made me search for answers because i need to use my computer for playing games watching movies etc. Does anyone know some really cheap upgrades i can use for my computer and can i support more ram than 384mbs

Sounds about right. A motherboard from the era when the Celeron 466 existed would probably not be able to take RAM modules bigger than 128 MiB (and since you have three slots for RAM modules that adds up to 384 MiB).

The only way to get more than 384 MiB RAM into your computer is to replace the motherboard which would also require a new processor since the sockets used for processors has change since then and you might need other new components (you'll need to be buy new RAM if you replace the motherboard because the RAM on your current one won't fit anything recent but that doesn't seem to be much of an issue for you).

When it comes down to it the Celeron 466 is passable for watching movies (it'll drop frames at times but it does tend to produce a watchable result, or at least that's the experience I had with a Celeron 466 laptop) but it won't run any recent games at all (though older games should be able to run).

In different words, you do not have the pc you think of you do and any solutions do no longer prepare. i'd touch your broking for a proof or refund! in case you recommend you have 2 slots empty then fill them with 2 x 512 MB PC2-3200 RAM and you're good to pass. sixty 4-bit Vista can cope with 4 GB of memory, yet that relies upon on even in the experience that your mobo chipset can help it, which yours apparently would not.

The amount of RAM you can use is entirely dependent upon the design of your motherboard.
If you can only take 384 MB then I assume it's an old computer and it would need the motherboard upgrading, which if you're not a techie, means a new computer.

3 GB usable RAM. Your computer can physically take 4GB since it is 32 bits, but nothing Windows wont be able to access more than 3GB.
