My daughter is going to be 4 weeks old tomorrow. I decided not to breastfeed this time because with my 1st I had so much trouble getting her to latch and I gave up after about 3 weeks. Anyhow, my daughter has been eating formula - enfamil lacto free.. Well, tonight I notice that my milk supply is still in and it's a pretty good amount so I tried breastfeeding her and she did great. Can I do that since she is already 4 weeks old and has been used to formula?? If so, is there anywhere I can find a cheap breastpump?

I was thinking of a breastpump for when we are out and about...I know some feel comfortable breastfeeding in public, but I'm not sure I'd feel alright doing that. Also, if my grandma wants to keep her all night she will need bottles. She was hungry a little bit ago and I gave her the breast and it filled her up. I feel so good breastfeeding her!!!!! :)

she isn't lactose intolerant...while i was breastfeeding my 1st child, she had jaundice so her doctor wanted to put her on lacto free along with my breast milk......so with my 4 week old i figured i'd stay with lacto free...thats what they were giving her at the hospital.

yay for you!
you say you had trouble the first time....you know why?...cuz you stated your doctor WRONGLY by the way made you supplement with formula....that sabotaged you
now....nursing is so much easier than pumping.....and much for effective for breast stimulation
i agree that you need to find a support group like La Leche League to help you get past his transition period from formula to breast
nurse her as much as possible!
NO pacifiers....let her comfort nurse......this will be very very good for your supply.......even if you have no milk in your breasts let her comfort suck
let her nurse as much as she wants
get skin to skin with her
bottle feed feed her skin to skin
in public....it's really so easy......seriously....please don't let your fears or overmodesty dictate your mothering abilities
go to the hospital and speak to the Lactation Consultant
the pump by the way won't give you an effective read out of your production.....so don't let it discourage you

Yes you can definately continue to breastfeed. You can probably just stop giving her formula, because you will produce milk as she nurses. Having her nurse exclusively will also help your supply.
As for the breast pump. If you are working full time make sure you get a pump designed for pumping multiple times a day. If you are a stay at home mom I suggest just getting a manual pump. Wal-mart has some pumps that are pretty cheap. You can also look on ebay for some great deals on new pumps. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Every baby is different. As long as she latches on well and takes the milk and is gaing weight then yea please continue. If not then stick to formula. My daughter has been breastfed & patrially formula fed from the beginging and all is well. Im on wic and they supplied me with a breast pump. i also bought a manual breastpump even flo from target. i used it for a couple weeks, but not too often, and the handle seemed to stop working as well as it did the first time. anyways, i then bought a single even flo electric/battery operated pump and it works great. i got it from target for about $35-$40.(actually pretty cheap)

Any amount of breastmilk is good for baby. It has excellent nutrients, but it also has your antibodies which helps baby's immature immune system, and of course the bonding with breastfeeding is very different from that with a bottle.
Take a look at the KellyMom site for more info and you might even want to join a LLL group for support.
Remember to watch for wet diapers to be sure she's getting enough from your breasts. You will likely need formula to balance out until you get more milk. You might even want to call in an IBCLC to help you with this.

You might try calling your local La Leche League chapter about used breast pumps. You would have to buy the disposable items from an all service pharmacy or medical supply outlet. Some may also do rentals for the pumps.
Your hospital or even your pediatrician may have one or more lactation nurses who may have info on a used breast pump.
Congrats on your conversion. Best wishes and good luck.

You absolutely can and good for you!
Call your insurance company first, some will supply you with a breast pump.
Next I would try Target or Walmart.
Is she lactose intolerant (I see that she's on lactose free formula)? I would limit the amount that you take in and see how it goes to make sure there aren't any problems and then gradually increase or decrease it, depending.

Yes you can breastfeed her if your milk supply is satisfying her. I know breast pumps do run on the expensive side. You could rent one from the hospital. Good luck!

Of course you can, and she latched great - why pump? Your daughter will be the best "pump" to get your supply up.
I've read that many who had problems nursing the first baby can successfully nurse the second.
She's a smart babe who really knows where the truly good stuff is. Congrats.

YES. Keep the breast milk going! I give my son both and it works great! (breast milk during the day and formula at night)
You should try an electric pump to get the best results with getting the milk out, and pump pump pump between feedings to get your supply up!

A cheap breast pump..try walmart.... if you want a good pump.. I'd go with the Medela Pump in Style... That's what i use. I'm a full time pumper.. and it works great. I wouldn't buy a used pump... unless it's made for mulit- person use... just for sanitary reasons.
But you are OK if you want to breast feed... good for you!
