We're all familiar with the Burquini here in Sydney, as the young woman that originally designed it hails from the southern suburbs of our city.

It's an interesting concept, isn't it ~ and one which has enabled Muslim women to participate in several activities which their religious gard has previously made difficult ~ including surf lifesaving (the designer joined the local Lifesavers when a call for a more multicultural mix in the organisation went out, a couple of years ago).

As the article says, it has also proved popular with cancer patients (Australia has the highest incidence of sun caused melanoma in the world).

For myself, I don't care about 'modest' dressing, but lots of women seem to (I'm not sure why, but as I said, I also don't care), and this seems to have hit the spot.

I did notice during a visit to a friend's home in Fiji some years ago, that Muslim and Hindi women in that country usually swim fully dressed, so this would at least allow them a little more practical comfort I imagine.

Cheers :-)

Man, if you live long enough you see everything in fashion return. I can't believe they are selling full body bathing suits again. I have the antique Victorian version of the Burquini hanging in my bathroom. The burquini would be pretty nice in cold water that isn't quite cold enough for a wet suit.

I actually really like that. It's attractive yet modest. I'd definately wear it and like it much better than the most modest swim wear I've been able to find thus far.

"Victoria's Secret"? or Victorian Era? You be the judge.
