You mean why isn't music so crappy anymore maybe? Or possibly Why is music so crappy now!? If you listen to R&B (you posted your question there...) the reason it's so crappy now is because there are so few artists who are willing to try new things. Timbaland and Akon are but who else? Everything sounds the same!!

Because people like John Lennon were murdered and there is a suspicion that our government did it, since Lennon was on Nixon's "hit list." Music is like any art and is essentially a rebellious creativity and runs up against the status quo and the establishment. Since that is the case, there are no creative takers under our present dangerous conditions.
In the 50s it was kind of threatening with older people and parents didn't like the rebelliousness, in the 60's rock was more accepted, expecially with the Beatles and their boyish haircuts, and so artist came out since the environment seemed secure and supportive. Then in the 80's when Reagan and the neocons took over, our society became dangerous to be free and creative and the music, as a consequence, stopped being made.
Now the only "good" music is coming from places like Japan where they don't have a paranoid government who will do anything to it's citizens to keep the rich rich and the poor poor.

Music isn't crappy, you just haven't been exposed to good music. I could give you an hour long list of underrated non-mainstream artsist with actual talent that should be challenging the sales of avril lavigne, but i can't take the time righ now..

Because you are older and know what you like. Its that way with a lot of things, you develop "taste." Recorded music is relatively new so be sure to look back into what is available, you may find some wonderful stuff.

In the last 15 or so years since anyone who can raise $5000 can have 1000 cd's made, we have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. Ever since we decided that nobody's self esteem should be messed with no one will tell their child,"Hey numbnuts, don't quit your say job!" Therefore ,we are treated to crap. Watch how indignant the losers on American Idol are when they are told beat it

Because that's what people are willing to spend their money on. This is probably the main reason I prefer classical music.
