I'm terrible at keeping my flat clean and tidy. I hired a maid. That seems to work.

You just do. Like anything else that has to be done but isn't a whole lot of fun, you just get up off your big butt and do it. Putting on some good music that will motivate you might help.

Also, are you all alone in this 3 bdrm house? If you are then there are probly at least 2 rooms that don't need to be cleaned as often as the others. If you are not alone then you need to get the others living there to help with the cleaning.

Weekly, clean the rooms that you use on a regular basis. Start where you want to, but I live in a one story home, so I start at one end & work my way to the other end. I have one bedroom that I don't use, so I don't clean it weekly, like I do the rest of the house. Pick up each room before you begin cleaning. As a matter of fact, keep your home picked up daily, so as to avoid clutter. Start in the smaller rooms because cleaning there won't take as long, if you clean weekly. Start with dusting, using a nice smelling furniture polish, then vacuum, the floors & mop the floors than have to be mopped with a good floor cleaner. When cleaning the bathroom(s) clean your commode, sinks, tub/shower, etc. with nice smelling cleaning products that work well. Don't forget the mirrors & windows too. I like to put my radio on when cleaning. Listening to the music makes the time go by faster. In between cleaning/vacuuming, keep your rooms picked up, tidy your closets. drawers, etc. It cuts down on a lot of time when cleaning day comes.

If you have a hard time disciplining yourself to do it, try it from different angles:

Using a kitchen timer, set yourself 10 minutes, go to a problem area and focus on it. Do as much of the major stuff as you can in 10 minutes.

If you collect too much stuff...challenge yourself to get rid of 10 items you no longer need. I try to do this any time I get an empty box. I fill it up and take it to the Goodwill depot.

Do one room every day.

Sometimes it just takes a few minutes to warm up to the task of cleaning. I sometimes find myself 20 minutes into it and realize, "ok, I'm really rolling now..."

Good luck, it shouldn't be too bad with just one of you dirtying things up. I clean up after myself, 3 kids, 2 dogs, a bird, a snake and an iguana.
