Its really pissing me off. I mean you cant just steal other peoples players. The Twins need all the prospects they can get and then WHAM, they are gone, including a couple of really promising players and even a major league veteran. If anyone can tell me how in the world this is fair, i would be ******* surprised.

First of all, they are prospects. Secondly, they are prospects that the Twins chose not to protect. Thirdly, they had the right to pick up anyone available in the Rule V draft but chose not to.

Where's the unfairness?

They can pick who they want to keep by adding them to the 40 man roster and keeping them on the 25 man roster all next year. Obviously the Twins didn't want to keep these players, or didn't think they would be able to contribute this year.

Remember... the teams that drafted them MUST keep them on the 25 man roster all year long, or trade them to a team who will. Otherwise the Twins get those players back. The Twins don't really seem to care about winning, but I don't think they are as screwed as it looks in the Rule 5 draft. Remember you guys got Santana from the Rule 5 draft. He was an Astro.

Don't hate the system that brought you here...

Edit: crime.dog... the selection free is $50,000. They can only offer them back for $25,000. Unless there are AA players in which it is $12,000 or A players which are $4,000 repsectively.

It's just how it works. If you have a player that has enough time in the minors and isn't protected by being on the 40-man roster, they are selectable. this means to me that the Twins thought that other people were more worthy of protection, and you should be happy that they weren't selected. If the Twins had thought that there was anyone worthy of selection, they would have done so, but they didn't. I'm willing to bet that some of the players won't stick with their new clubs and end up back with the Twins by the end of '08 because the team that selected the player can offer him back for $50,000 (half of the selection fee) if they don't want him on the 25-man roster anymore.

They gained no one because they picked no one. It was their decision not to take any players. Everybody in baseball plays by the same rules. The Twins weren't singled out. They weren't prevented from taking players themselves. You can protect a certain number of prospects, so you have to presume the Twins felt the ones they protected were more valuable than those they didn't protect. For your sake, I hope they're right.

That's how the Rule 5 draft works -- if the Twins decided not to participate, that's the front office's responsibility -- but history says that they'll likely get back at least five if not all six players. Rule 5 draftees rarely pan out (yes, a handful have).

Not Fair? It's not like the league turned on them. They lost 6 prospects because they let go of all their many free-agents. So far they only got a couple of bad free agents who aren't all-stars. They will be in the bottom of the division because of this.

Now for the draft picks, it always seems like they get no one, because they are guys coming out of College/High school, and nobody's heard of them. The Twins picked up a couple of guys and they will probably do nothing this year.

They didn't protect these players, by dropping some dead weight off their roster. It is their fault they lost these guys. But you need to relax. In order for those guys to stay with the team that picked them up they would need to stay on that team's 25 man roster ALL season. That rarely happens. Expect 4 of them to be returned by the end of spring training.

THAT'S JUST HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS. THE TWINS SHOULD HAVE PROTECTED THEM IF THEY WERE ANY
GOOD. THE TEAM THAT DRAFTED THEM MUST PUT THEM ON THE 25 MAN ROSTER BY THE END OF SPRING
TRAINING.

Any team that loses players due to Rule V has no one to blame but themselves.
