for better or worse doesn't mean you should stay in a marriage with an abuser a cheater or a user. for better or worse applies to the ups and downs in life, not whether a spouse treats you better or worse. a husband and wife should always respect each other - period. marriage is forever, but if my husband beat me, cheated on me repeatedly, or became addicted to alcohol or drugs and refused to get help or support, i would leave, at least until he committed to changing his ways.

There are no stigmas attached to divorce now. Back in the day women who divorced were not held in high regard. Now that society has loosened many of its rules women are finding out that they don't have to put up with a horrible husband to be respectable. I still believe that people give up on their marriages too easy now, but it seems that many more of them are trying to make it work

Let's just say that "for better or worse" is included in wedding vows because too many people seem to think that marriage is disposable, and you should be able to just walk away at the first hint of any sort of trouble. If you can't make that sort of commitment, promising to stay with someone through difficult times as well as when it's easy, then you shouldn't ever get married. Fair weather relationships are probably more your style.

ETA: BTW, I don't for one instant believe that ANYONE should be locked into a marriage of abuse. If a spouse is lying, cheating, breaking the law in any way, and/or abusing his/her own spouse, then the other spouse is under no obligation to stay.

I think most people say that because they wouldn't be able to leave their partner, and if you did it makes them look worse. You should stand up for yourself and respect yourself. Especially if he doesn't. This will not only be good for you, but also good for him, and your marriage.(also good for the kids if you have any) If interested check out my website at www.goodpsychicmedium.com (Someone who's lived through it.)

when you get married it should be for better or worse. If you aren't willing to stick out the commitment then you shouldn't be making it. If you married an abuser, a drug addict or an alcoholic, chances are you knew that they were this way before tieing the knot. If you didn't realize it then you didn't know the person well enough to get married in the first place.
All in all I think that if you aren't willing to commit, then you shouldn't.

God is very much in the business of swapping partners if things don't work out and you must know it! God is not kidding! Let’s peek into King David’s wives. King David was a man made “after God’s own heart!”

2 Samuel 12:8 (NIV) I* (*God) gave your master's house to you* (*David), and your master's wives* (ex-King Saul’s wives) into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more (More wives yet! Wow!).

King David got Bathsheba pregnant and got her husband killed to take her for himself. God was King David’s personal pimp, but God didn’t like what King David did on his own!

2 Samuel 12:11-12 (NIV) This is what the LORD says: “Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.” (Done! 2 Samuel 16:21-22)

Christian ladies who love sexual exhibitionism in public need not to fear… God loves DAY CLUB settings in full public view! Private NIGHT CLUBS are of the Devil! God will never force anybody to sin… so ladies, enjoy all you can!

Obviously God loves to play “musical chairs” with the wives of his people. Some Christian ladies wouldn’t stop praising the LORD!!! Amen?
