His stats are the victim of a defensive coordinator who is not as aggressive as Wade Phillips. Ted Cottrell preferred to let Merriman hang back and defend the run, rather than be the sack-master beast that he can be. Merriman has admitted that he's been more effective on running plays than last year. But, he's still chomping at the bit to get a hit on the quarterback.
Merriman had 3 sacks last week, giving him 9.5 on the season, tied for 7th in the league (the league lead is 11.5 sacks). He's 8 away from his 17.5 last year. So, all he needs is 2 sacks per game to reach that total.

I think it's just that people expect alot out of him. He's got 9.5 sacks this season, which is pretty good. But, he doesn't have 17 like he did last year, which makes me people second guess him.

Well, actually he had an excellent game this week. I don't feel like looking it it up but it was I believe 3 sacks, a forced fumble, and a lot of tackles.

He's off the juice this year and realizes that he's not as much of a bad *** as he thought he was.

He's off the roids. It's amazing how different you play when you're off it. Just ask Sammy Sosa.
