hi.. i was given an after school detention tonight for 2 hours where i had to write lines. ' I must follow the school code of conduct at all times' Im in year 10 and from the UK and our detentions at school are from 3.30 til 5.30.
not only are writing pages of lines boring, but your hand and fingers are sore from holding the pen! My biro ran out of ink so i had to borrow a pen of the school cleaner (he emptied the bins and tidy the room up etc..) which made my fingers numb coz it was another biro, i dunno if a different pen will help?
At 5.30 i handed my lines to the teacher and returned the pen to the cleaner!
I have the same detention next week, so any ideas?
what are your detentions like?
xx

thats well bad!...
*In my school our detentions after school are not allowed to last longer than 1hr [if they have informed our parents], or longer than 20 mins [if they haven't informed our parents!]...
*We have a 30 -45 min detention at lunchtime if we are late more than 3 times in a week. Apparently, by law they are not allowed to keep you the whole of lunchtime without any lunch...
*We are usually made to sit in silence where we can either read or do h/w in our detentions...
*Teachers usually get bored and let us go after half an hour, but thats only usually in after school detentions!...
They stopped giving us lines in Primary school! In Primary school once we'd written our lines the teacher would tear it up in front of our faces!...
...pi$$ed me right off that did!
=)

My detentions are kinda the same as dogs_die_in_hot_cars!
What we have to do, is write down about four to ten pages, depending how naughty you've been.
Then on assemblys the teacher gets all the naughy ppl up front and tears thier lines in front of EVERYONE.
OMG, its SOOO imbarrasing.
I only got detension 3 times thanx to my X friends who are now telling the teacher false things I didn't do.
I understand how you feel for getting detention for no good reason. IT MAKES ME FEEL HUMILIATED!!!!!!
You just skipped one class, and Oh My God, your getting DOUBLE detention. TWO hours at a stupid school 4 only missing one class. TWO hours wasting your life? Your live is maximum 80 years and you spend TWO hours of it writing lines?
Your teachers must be mad.
My teachers give me twenty mins after school.
Sorry 4 you
bye

2 hours, is a long detention. What did you do to deserve that, or is it the same time for everyone?
I wouldn't allow my daughter to stay until 5.30pm at this time of year, as it's dark when it's time to go home. Unless you get picked up, then that's a different story.
Also, doing lines teaches you nothing, I'm sure your teachers could come up with something a bit more imaginative, than handing you lines to do.

At my school, the detention is eating lunch at a special table, and then, after everyone eats, you need to broom the floor or wipe the tables. After you get three detentions, though, you have to stay after school on Friday from three-thirty to six-thirty and either just sit in the classroom or help the teacher in charge with work.

Our after school detenions (I am from New York) were only an hour long.. from 2:30-3:30
if you were not in the room by the time the 2:30 bell had rang, you were given another detenion and not allowed to serve the detenion you were going for.... also, you had to sit in seats assigned to you, you were not allowed to talk to anyone or sleep and you either had to do school work or read
it wasn't too bad and it helps get school work done
I graduated in June of 2007..thank goodness

our detentions are ojnly an hour long, and the teacher gets bored so they only last 20 mins to half hour if your lucky, just write your lines slower and keep your arm flat on the desk at all times... that helped me alot with my english exams...

Your 'detention' question seems to pop up every so often with only slight differences in wording. Obviously, no one's answer is ringing your bell so how can we help you overcome this difficult time you seem to be having? If you could ask the really serious, no-holding-back question, what would it be? Try us. We want to help if we can.

What on earth did you do??
Write the lines slower, unless you have to do a certain amount.

write the line once, then write "copy>paste" for the rest of the day. though that will probably get you more detentions, it would be funny.
