We wouldn't need one if everyone carried a gun. Can you imagine a mall full of armed people when this fool started firing. I don't think he could have squeezed off more that 2 shots before each patron at the mall would at least get 1 shot each..multiply that by perhaps 100 people nearby..there would have been no need for a semiautomatic. I was at a McDonalds in Tucson, Ariz when 2 "cowboys" walked in carrying holstered pistols..I felt very safe. I had my house broken into some years ago..there were 3 of them (in unfamiliar surroundings and me in my own "lair") and they went out the top floor window..one dropped his knife outside when he hit the ground and was later arrested with the fingerprint evidence..I think I'd already be dead if not for my gun.

We don't, but making them illegal won't make them go away, just harder to find. Also, how would you describe a "semi automatic? Certain type of hand guns are also called semi automatic.
