We saw one, so we got real strict about doing dishes right away and throwing out garbage. We also had an exterminator come. Any more tips ?

Boric Acid; throw it everywhere the roaches walk.

Then do it again every month.

That is about all you can do, I'm sure the exterminator gave you directions about keeping your kitchen free of crumbs and all food traces. Periodically spray under the sink and around base boards with a recommended roach killer.

If you live in an apartment, chances are that your neighbors may be partly to blame. If you are doing your best then contact the apartment manager. It does take awhile for them to go away though. The exterminator may have not killed the eggs so they will die after they hatch. I have been told that they are after water as much as food. I recommend Geckos.

Boric acid is very effective when used properly for killing roaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.
