This teenager will not work, go to school, clean up after himself or his dog, will not take care of the dog, will do nothing but sit around smoking pot and drinking. He is faced with eviction from his residence in one month. But still no motivation. What is going on here? It seems to be worse that just laziness. Does anyone have any answers here?

Sounds like depression to me, either exacerbated or brought on by the drugs and alcohol.

Bad hygiene and addiction go hand-in-hand. If he asks to move in make it conditional. He has to have a job, keep YOUR house clean, take care of his dog, and pay you rent. Any violation of your rules constitutes immediate eviction. You have to hold firm. If he realizes he has substance abuse issues, support him in his recovery.

Yep----it's the pot.
As a former pothead, I can tell you that it saps every ounce of ambition, leaving you unable to give a crap about anything.
Get him off drugs, and he'll soon shape up.
If you don't, before you know it he will be 50, and living in his parent's basement.....still puffin' away on the weed.

He is a lazy useless person who has never been motivated by anyone to be more than he is. If he gets booted out of shelter, he may become motivated as long as he realizes he isn't going to be bailed out by anyone else.

He's a spoiled brat and probably depressed that his parents do not pamper him anymore.
If that's your child, spank him. If he isn't, stay away from that person.

If he wants to buy dope and booze .... let him live in his car.. if he has one ....
