I am considering to move to California. I dont necessarily have to be in LA but at the same time would like to be in an area which is alive.
Can you please suggest the towns which are affordable for a person earing 30k and is not extravagant. Suggest places on the CA outskirts which are not to far and I could take under consideration.

I've lived in California my whole life (with the exception of college) so take my advice. If you like the beach, a more relaxed setting, and more laid-back people, go to Southern California (SoCal). Nice weather there. Biggest downside: the people. Everytime I go there, all that matters is fashion and how many people you know. Guys dress the same in surfer/skater clothes and girls need to get dressed up everywhere they go. SoCal is nice to visit though.
Northern California is where the businesses are. Silicon Valley is the most prosperous place to work (Yahoo, Google, HP, Apple, Oracle, etc.). SF is one of the chillest cities. You get more individualistic people and they probably know more about the world other than surfing and clothes (SoCal). Plus, the music scene in Northern California is probably the best in the nation (along with NY).

I know you asked were to live but heres a warning of were not to live.Just stay away from Sacramento Stockton and Modesto.These cities and all the central valley are the arm pit ofCalifornia.Just moved away from Modesto.So much crime traffic Drugs.We were hit 3 times in on year in 3 differant cars.ANd right before we moved up here to Washington I had someone try to break in the house while we were home and the police wouldnt even come.WE also had about 100 homeless people(mostly cranked out loosers)parading down our residential street every day.

Cali is kinda expensive....not sure where you can live making 30K....but orange county, yorba linda, brea are very nice areas......but even a 1 bedroom apt is like $1000 a month.....you might need a roomate....but orange county is so nice....i visited some family in brea.......never once heard police sirens or anything...talk about safe.....i live in Texas....crime is out of control in the south....good luck....enjoy the awesome weather.

Yeah...if you really want to move to California you need to be pulling down double that just to really get by.

$30K you can't live well in coast area, try Lancaster/Palmdale area, it is in LA county, summer is hot but winter is nice.
