Was your father a citizen when you were born? If so, you have an automatic right to citizenship.

If not, are you still a minor? If you are, your father can petition to have you granted citizenship.

If you're an adult, were you a minor when your father became a citizen? If you were then you can 'apply' for citizenship, but it's not automatic because you didn't apply before you became an adult. If you're still reasonably close to being a minor (19 or early 20's) it will usually be granted.

If your father didn't become a citizen until after you became an adult, then he can apply for an adult child visa for you. After three years in the country with a legal Visa, you can start the citizenship process.

Note that if you're "currently" on an illegal status, then unless you have a right to citizenship by entitlement, you'll have to leave the country, get the paperwork filed from overseas, and come back once you're legal.

well if you're under 18, then when you're mom becomes a citizen you automatically become one too.....ACTUALLY now that i think about it...if you ARE under 18, and your BIOLOGICAL father is already citizen...all you have to do is fill out some paperwork and mail it to immigration group. Your mom on the other hand, will have to apply, and then take a test, and if she passes THEN she will get her citizenship. If you are 18 or OVER...you have to as well.

Hope i helped!

btw below is a site providing ALL the information you need...it's a direct site...and operated by the U.S. Gov. so it's 100% reliable

you need to go to your local Immigration or INS office fill out some papers, and take a test. If you pass, you'll get sworn in as a US Citizen. You also need a sponsor who is a legal US Citizen. It can be anybody you want. Even a family member.
