I try to get them relaxation stuff, since they work with kids all day. A good paperback, a gift certificate for a manicure, or bubble bath would work. All can be fairly inexpensive. If you want something a bit more pricy, a gift certificate for a massage would be nice, or add a pedicure or facial to the manicure.

Something that would be nice & cheap to give is:
-Box of chocolates- everyone loves receiving chocolates :-)
-A nice picture frame
-Holiday candle (scented)
-Card with candy cane
-Holiday Coffee cup- if she/he drinks coffee
-Scarf & gloves
-A "pamper yourself" gift set- you can buy one for as cheap,as $6-$10
Remember is the thought that counts & a tip for not making your gift look cheap- is the way & how you wrap it. You can buy some $3 gloves & a $1 scarf + a $1 card at the dollar store and make it look like you spent more by wrapping it in a nice box, with a dressy looking bow- not those cheap X-Mas star looking ones- you can even do it yourself with some party string, and (Wa-lah) you got yourself a real nice thoughtful gift. (No body will know how much you spent on it). I hope this helps, and good luck. Happy Holidays by the way.
C.G :-)

I recently had this problem and came across this Do-it-yourslef site:
It has great ideas and you can add to them. the teachers love them and its cheap. i went to my local dollar store and picked up Christmas themed canisters and filled them with hot chocolate and a cute snowman soup poem

well i love already pre-packaged gift boxes for that kind of stuff. most any store, from Wal-Mart up to the most expensive dept stores have tons of pre-made gift boxes, usually with bath stuff, but also with food, or coffee or a hot chocolate gift box. you could probably find something wherever you usually do your shopping, even your grocery shopping. and of course, don't forget a card, to say thanks and Merry Christmas.

Some music cds or a nice scarf and mitten set with a thank you for taking great care of my child...
OR how about making her some holiday treats...if she's babysitting she most llikely doesn't have time to bake...

Why say cheap........I hope you think a lot of her......she is raising your child.
Something special and affordable sounds better.
A nice fleece jacket, sweater or some homemade goodies
