A lot of young children seem to stop believe in Santa Clause at such a young age every holiday season. What do you think causes a child to stop in believing in Santa Clause? Do you think it's because a child asks for something special one year and they don't get what they ask for?

Could it be that people in general don't have as much Christmas spirit, as in the past?

I think there are a lot of reasons. I think it's partly because the imagination of children has been so sapped by mass-market culture that they can't even think enough about Santa to imagine the magic of the idea. It's easy to stop believing in a fat man that comes down your chimney when you don't have the imagination and creativity to try and figure out how such a thing could exist. You just decide it *doesn't*.

That, and you find "Santa's" gifts in the bottom of Mom's closet just after Thanksgiving.

Its simple we have forgotten that Christmas more to the point is for children. We live in a none stop world where money gadgets and gifts mean more then the simple idea Christmas is for kids. Santa is under attack he should say ho ho ho because its politically incorrect or its yelled to loud and might scare the kids. He needs liability insurance just to work out of fear of being sued. And today two malls in Vancouver BC have told the salvation army bell ringers to knock it off no more bells rung. So we have a break neck pace in life that's all about money and how much to spend. And the main man of Christmas has been slapped with a gag order or fear of a law suite. Throw in parents and older kids who simply can't keep their mouths shut about Santa no being real. And is it any wonder kids today don't believe anymore. It's now about how many presents they want and how much they cost.

Many reasons, One the tag looks like a parents handwritting, to solve that have someone eles write it for you that they dont know. and What i find common is they wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and hear a nosie go investagate and see mom or dad putting things under the tree and then the parents tell them Santa is Make-believe. Another common problem now starts with the second reason but happens at school. another child says there mom or dad said santa wasnt real then they go home crying and the parents give in and tell them hes not real. Most parents dont want to be bothered with hidding presents and sneaking around so Santa isnt real. My dad still puts on some gifts From Santa in his hand writing and puts out cookies and milk and im 20 Yrs old. My parents never told me hje wasnt real i just kinda figured it out on my own but i like seeing from Santa it makes me feel like a part of me is still a kid.

I think when they go to see Santa at one mall, and then leave to go to another mall just half an hour later, they happen to see Santa. At first, it confuses them. After all, how can Santa be at two malls at the same time. After awhile, unless children believe that you CAN be in two places at one time, it hits them.

Or they have parents who take the Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara in Miracle on 34th Street) or Laura Calvin (Wendy Crewson in The Santa Clause) route and just tell them that Santa Claus is mythological and not real, in attempt to teach the children about what is real and what is not. This is understandable.

Well a lot of kids at school tell them he doesn't exist and that their parents have told them other ways are if they were staying up late watching TV they might hear something about it and as kids grow older they would find it hard to believe that a man comes down the chimney and leaves presents for everyone on the world!

Well, for one thing, the older kids at school just love to tell the younger ones there isn't any Santa. That's one reason. The other is that kids are smarter today and question more. As one kid said on TV, if Santa is at the North Pole, why do all my toys say "Made in China" on the bottom? Smart kids!

because when they are talking about Santa to their little friends, their friends tell them that there's no Santa and then they go home and ask their parents and then the parents are basically forced to tell them the truth but also inform them that Santa is the spirit of christmas itself.

The imagination of a child is ten fold that of an adult. I think that as you get older common sense and logical thinking start to kick in and replaces the vivid imagination that we all had at one time or another.
