Castor oil will give you diarrhea and abdominal cramping. It won't harm your baby if taken in small and infrequent doses, but it can make you feel miserable and can also cause dehydration, which is NOT healthy for you and your baby. Constipation is common in pregnancy because of the hormone Progesterone, which slows the passage of food through your intestines, allowing maximum absorption of the food you eat. (This is so your baby can get as many nutrients as possible.) It's probably unwise to try to treat your constipation with castor oil or any other "one off" remedy, as the constipation is not an illness, rather a side effect of a normal pregnancy. (It's not an isolated incident, and will come back if you treat it improperly.)
One of the yuckiest side effects of constipation is hemorrhoids! These are caused by straining during bowel movements due to hard stool. Keep a short stepstool by the toilet to put your feet up on so your body is in a supported "squat" position when you go. Sit up straight, relax the muscles in your bottom, breathe deeply and relax through the movement. Have patience, don't strain or push (remember this trick when you're giving birth. It works!).
Of course, to avoid constipation and hemorrhoids altogether, the easiest course of action is to get a lot of fiber in your diet (whole grains, cereals, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables) and to drink lots of water! The fiber can't do its job unless you are adequately hydrated. You should drink half your weight, in ounces, of water every day (ex: if you weigh 140 lbs, you should drink 70 oz of water per day). If measuring this much water is daunting, just make sure you are drinking enough water to keep your urine clear-to-pale. The next thing to add to this natural "remedy" is exercise. You don't have to do any heavy workouts, but go for a walk or bike ride, or walk up & down some stairs or take a swim to help your body move things along. These are things you can do every day throughout your pregnancy. Your body and your baby will thank you for the great care! :)

There's no need to take Caster Oil. Call your doctor and ask, but get used to not being able to make a BM, it comes with the territory of pregnancy. A bowl of mini-wheats did the trick for me!!!

Don't use castor oil. Put more fiber into your diet. Drink lots of juice and water -- prune juice is most helpful. Exercise can help get things moving as well.
