Cami is my best friend ever. I want to have a housewarming party but I requested NO GIFTS. I'm an older woman and I have everything I need. I would just have more "stuff" that I don't know what to do with. I only have a senior apartment with no storage. Cami says she won't come if she can't bring something. I need her there. It wouldn't be special without her. How can I get her to come without a gift? If she brought something, everybody that DIDN'T bring one would feel bad because I told them they would be sent back to the car without any supper if they had a gift in their hand... What 2 dooo?

I think you should let her bring whatever she wants.
Sometimes you have to just GIVE IN and not be so stubborn.
Tell her, "ohhhh ok, just this one time but NEVER again". I would be willing to bet she is as stubborn as you.

Tell her the best gift she could give you would be for her to come a bit early and help you out because you want to share the whole event with her...she will feel truly needed...and if she wants to be bring a dish or appetizer or a bottle of wine, etc.....

OR if she gets stuck on insisting she bring a gift, tell her you don't want the gift to be displayed since it may make others feel badly, and then tell her, you'd like something nice to hang on your front door....that way everytime she comes to visit a part of her is there. She will know she gave it, but it won't interfere the party :-)

Congrats on your new digs and enjoy! :-)

Ask her to bring some food, wine or both. That way, it gets
eaten and can be just as nice as any gift. You don't have to
store it or take it with you. If she brings a gift, so what, you
don't have to keep it. Tell your guests it's a potluck and to
bring food instead of gifts. Then send the uneaten food home
with them. Wine always makes a nice gift also.

A floral centerpiece for your table would be great! Let your friend contribute! Or perhaps she can bring the linens for the dinner? Something like that. Have fun and happy housewarming!

If she is coming and insists to bring a gift and other friends are coming a tray of cheese and crackers or veggie tray would be nice. P.S. Jan 3rd will be my 68th birthday!

Have them make a donation to the local homeless shelter in your name. What a wonderful way to celebrate your new home by helping those less fortunate. I'm sure your friends would have a hard time saying no to that.
