No, from our country's inception, our best presidents have always had faith and religious training. I truly believe that it was the religious beliefs of those brave men that secured prosperity on behalf of our nation.

It will be a problem for Huckabee should he get the nomination. No one I know has a problem with anyone being religious, including politicians. The only thing they fear is a President who would try to insert his own religious beliefs into law that all Americans have to follow. This will be highlighted specifically in the case of Huckabee, since he is not just religious, but also a Baptist preacher. Most people in this country believe in the concept of the separation of church and state, and wish to keep it that way. They will be afraid that electing a Baptist preacher will put that government secularity in jeopardy.

People aren't afraid of a president who is religious. They are afraid that his religion will govern his every thought and action. We have separation of church and state for a reason. We don't want a theocracy based on one of the hundreds of Christian denominations in this country or another religion.
Being a person of faith is not a negative as long as they don't try and shove their religion down the throats of others. The President of the United States is a secular job and it should remain so.
History has proven time and time again that when religion factors heavily in a government things get all messed up and it doesn't seem to matter what the religion it is.

Honestly, I'd prefer a President of any faith, that at least believes in some kind of Supreme Being, than an atheist.

If you are scared by that, you should be scared that 90% of the American population believes in God and another absurdly high percentage claims to be Christian.
Scared of a religious president? No
Scared of the rural Bible thumpers who are eventually going to elect the next religious president like they did 'W' in the last election? Yes

Our last five presidents have been born again.
Your question should be rephrased to the inverse.
Are some people scared by the prospect of having a President who is NOT religious?

I don't think people are as much "scared" as they are skeptical. If you're religious, fine, but there's no need to yell to everyone how religious you are because most of the times those tend to be the ones who aren't really religious at all.

After the debacle of the GWB years I would be highly suspicious of any presidential candidate claiming to be religious.

The fact that his religion will get in the way of enacting laws that are supposed to be secular.
