My young niece is in fourth grade. She is asking for a cell phone but her mother doesnt think she can handle that responsibility. She is right in the transition age where she's wanting older kid things but also still in the toy stage. Her mother & I are struggling to find presents for her that she will like but are also appropriate & easy enough for her to control.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is a special firefly phone just for kids it just like a cell but there are only a few phone number it is allowed to call which an adult can program into it, i don't think it allows texting either, but there cute and make accessories for it just like any other phone. It will be like a compromise on what she really want and what her mom thinks she is ready for, and it will give her the responsibility of a phone so you will know if she can handle a responsibility like that.

Good job on saying no to the cell phone. There's some phones (like the Firefly) that only let her call her mom dad, 911, and a few numbers. I also know Disney has a phone out.

other than phones, what about an mp3 player? there's a Disney brand and more kid-friendly ones.

You could also do something special: take her out shopping for a day, take her to a fun restaurant...

Get her a firefly. It's a cell phone but she can only dial 4 or 5 different numbers that her parent put in it. It would give her the satisfaction of owning a cell phone but not all the responsibility.

A gift card, a game system like a nintendo DS, an iPod, or, yes you can get her a cell phone. Just talk to her about taking care of it well and not losing it.

Possibly a prepaid cell phone? About the cheapest you can buy one is about $15.00 and all you do is buy cards for it and put the minutes on your self. If it would break it wouldnt be that bad because its only cheap you know what i mean? You can pick them up any where, the dollar store, wal*mart, pretty much any place along that area. ♥ Happy Holidays!

Anything Hannah Montana. She is all the rage this year. Most little girls want the Hannah Montana Dance Mat. Sells for about $39 at Toyr R Us. I think Target may carry them also.

I'm not sure but for my grandchildren I went on toys R us web site and looked under the age groups or maybe the next age group up.

how about some jewelry making supplies to keep her busy, movies, clothes, shoes, makeup kits, board games or handheld games, supply of new books to read (I loved Babysitters Club books at that age!), ipod or MP3 player (my nieces LOVE theirs!), tickets to a concert or play, movie passes to take friends to a movie, digital camera
you're right, way too young for cell phone!
