If you are wanting to present one gift for a whole family...how about a "Movie Theater" gift basket. You could purchase a family friendly movie (The Santa Clause,Escape Clause...or something of that nature), enclose 2 or 3 bags of microwaveable popcorn, a 2 liter of coke, a package of twislers or a couple boxes of movie sized candy....Instead of getting a basket get a large popcorn bowl to put all the items in. Its something that the whole family can enjoy. My family has received them several times and we've always enjoyed it.

I have found that gift cards are a shoppers best friend. Some people may say it's the easy way out and yes, it probably is but they don't complain when that person shows me what they bought and were very happy with it.

Too general to give a good answer. Who are you buying for. If you are just getting one holiday gift for the whole family it could be a DVD, game or appliance.
