My husband's a roofer and his work clothes get covered in tar. It has left a residue around the seal of my dryer. Does anyone have any idea of what I can use to get this residue off?

It might be the dryer seal itself corroding with age. Ours has done this before and the friction of the drum on the seal left a fine black soot-like substance.

I'd suspect any residue from clothes would be evident in the filter as well.

You might be able to replace the seal yourself if you can get the right one, ours pulls out and slips back in easily.

Stop drying his clothes in the dryer. Line dry his clothes. Try using alcohol to remove it.

nail polish remover, paint thinner, mineral spirits.
There is product called brake-clean that auto mechanics use that will also work (in a spray can).
