Some commentators are saying that those without Internet access are seriously deprived of a basic medium of communication. Will they be left behind in an information society? Does society have an obligation to ensure that everyone can have access?

Who are these " expert commentators" saying that without internet access we will be seriously deprived of a basic medium of communication? Fast is not necessarily good. Lack of scrutiny is not necessarily good. If we do not get some censorship on the internet content soon, it will be a system to disceminate garbage. We are approaching that point now.. Some of the filth shown should only be said in books where selection would be limited not fully exposed to inquiring minds.

I don't think so - but I bet if you let Coca-cola and McDonalds put up ads on the "Free internet access" to all citizens, they'd pay for it.

Infact if we let coca-cola and mcdonalds put up ads in schools, we'd releive our budget crisis for the schools...
