My husband is almost insistant that we name our daughter Reagan. I'm not entirely sold on it yet. What do you think of it? Be honest...I can take it.

Also, will it cause confusion on how it is pronounced? I told my friend what it was over email, then she later mispronounced it over the phone. It's pronounced RAYgan...like the president.

My hubby shoots down every other name I suggest. He's really stuck on this name.

We named our first daughter Evelyn (which was my choice).

I don't think it's great for a girl's name. Reagan can be pronounced both RAYgan and REgan, so it will cause some confusion. I knew a librarian once whose last name was pronounced REgan.

If your husband is insistant, ask that it be made the middle name, and try to come up with another name HE LIKES for the first name. Ask for a second suggestion from him. You'll probably be able to reach an agreement.

To be honest, it is very original...I have heard this name only once before, and personally, I really like it...BUT, your child may disagree, when she gets in her teenage years and her name sounds like a former president! lol...That being said...Why not use it for a middle name, and compromise on a first name that you both love...Try talking to your husband about it...It probably will be mispronounced (she will prob be called Ree-gan on occasion), but again, remember this is a choice you guys will have to make. My advice though, is to pick a name that will grow with her...Can you see Reagan as a child's name, teenager's, mother's, grandmother's...Don't forget she will have to live with it forever...by the way, LOVE the name Evelyn...very pretty...How about:

Olivia Reagan
Grace Reagan
Lily Reagan
Elizabeth Reagan

hope this helps a bit, and congrats on your baby girl!!!!

Reagan (yes, RAYgan) is an absolutely beautiful name, I think. It is not a very common name either. Go for it.

Don't worry about some people mispronouncing it. My daughter's name is Jenna, and yet people often mispronounce it as Gina. She promptly corrects them, lol

Good luck with your baby girl.

I'll just tell you this: I work at a book store, and every time someone comes through with a baby, I ask them what the baby's name is, and I've already heard Reagan about 10 times this year. Everyone is naming their kid that.

No one ever names their children classic names anymore. By the time your daughter is in high school there will be no more Kate's or Molly's or Emily's. Sad.

It isn't my favorite, but I don't hate it. I would pronounce it (Ree-gan) with a long e. That was the name of one of King Lear's daughters in the play by Shakespeare. I had an English professor who named his daughter that. I do think it will get mispronounced a lot, but if you like it and you don't mind correcting people, go for it. If you don't like it, you and your husband need to find a compromise.

I like Reagan and I knew how to pronounce it immediately. It really should be something that you and your husband can agree on or maybe let him choose the first name and you choose the middle or vise verse. Good luck and I'm sure whatever you choose will fit her like a glove.

When I first read it I mispronounced it also. I have considered in the past of naming a son Regan the way I pronounced it... Your baby your choice my opinion! Good Luck!

Having an unusual name myself, I can't stress enough how difficult it is to have an unusual name. I was teased mercilessly growing up. I am now an high school principal and kids have not changed. They can be extremely mean to those they feel are different. An unusual name makes a child a target from birth.

Why Reagan? Why this name? Sounds too much like former President Reagan. That plus it was the character name of the girl possessed in "The Exorcist".

It sounds also somewhat pretentious, arrogant. I can't honestly recall ever knowing or meeting a girl named Reagan. Pronunciation might get confusing like you said, people might say REE-gan.
