Venezuela is a major supplier of oil. It's people are constantly coming to US, working, and sending the money back home. It's government and it's leader is trying to become a major player in world politics.
That being said, the US should not deal with any communist country that oppresses its people, which is every communist country.

It sounds to me more like they were on their way to a cult of personality government.
Communism seems to be a passing point of many countries as they go from being ruled by a few of the very rich, to a democracy.
It doesn't stay with a country much past the distribution of the bulk of the wealth from the highest to the semi-highest.
It still doesn't reach the masses.

It already is..The President (Dictator) is on the top of the list for Castro support and uses the money he makes from his American Gas Stations to Support Castro and Cuba..
