RS - save money. Buy the part through http://www.lcdscreen.com and then either replace the screen yourself or have a local repair shop do it for ~$100.

This should help you if you want to do the simple replacement of the screen: http://www.screentekinc.com/lcd-removal-instructions_en,compaq.shtml

You need to evaluate the cost you originally invested in the laptop versus buying a new one. If your not savvy enough to replace the screen yourself then full replacement may be the option to go. Geek Squad is very expensive and the screen may not be cheap either depending on the make and model of your laptop. So consider your options and how long you plan on keeping the laptop before upgrading.

Contact the place you got the laptop from - you may be still under warrenty from them or the manufacturer. Check this out first. Other wise get 3 quotes for the repair as some places will be very expensive and others will be cheaper...

if you have any dealings with the geek squad, prepare to spend a whole bunch of money and still end up unhappy.
