while leaving work i found some candy corn pumpkins and placed them on a coworkers car who is 22yrs old. no feuds between us or anything just good ole silly fun. i placed about 8-10 of them around his car. my coworker is mentally retarded and was mad about it. he told my manager a wk later my manager told me it was under investigation and i was to be suspened til the investigation was completed. if i found them on company grounds would there be a difference if i placed 8-10 leaves around his car instead? Will i get reimbursed for days suspened if the investigation does not prove i did it? i work at home depot

Home Depot has time to waste investigating candy corn placed around a car?!?!
How absurd. I find it difficult to believe you were suspended for such a thing or that any company would waste valuable time & resources on a candy corn caper. Are you sure there isn't more to this story than you are letting on?

First "on" is not "around". Candy can damage the paint on a car. It does not matter where they came from, you placed them on the car.
Placing something on another persons property is not appropriate behavior at work and can lead to legal issues.
Since you did not work any hours during the suspension there is nothing for Home Depot to reimburse you for. You get paid for the hours you work.

In this Super PC World of ours, yes, you can be fired and what you did CAN be called Vandalism... You wounded Bill's inner child and reality has no real bearing into what can happen to you... You need to contact corporate and ask what the policy on a situation like this would be… They might tell you that because you denied it, they can fire you if they look at the security footage… It also depends on what state you work in... If you live in Illinois, for example, they need a REAL reason to fire you... But if you live in Arizona, a right to work state, then they need no reason at all... I got fired in AZ because a FRIEND of mine filed a complaint about how the Assistant Manager at the store I worked at cussed out a customer, threw a smoothie at the window of a neighboring store, and took money from the register for personal snacks... I'll say that again, I GOT FIRED FOR MY FRIEND FILEING A COMPLAINT. They said that the friend wouldn’t have complained to corporate if I hadn’t told her about what was going on. I hate to say it but your pretty screwed... and there isn't much you can do about it... It's one of the worst parts of the "Real world".

Sounds like he is easily upset. Did you put the candy ON the car or AROUND the car on the ground?
If you've already apologized for upsetting him, just let it go. Some people just can't take a joke.

Is there a company policy about placing candy on a car? My company does not have any such policies. Contact someone more important than your supervisor for clarification. The whole thing sounds pretty silly.

That's silly. Sounds like he's a jerk to me. You might be better off just staying away from him. As for getting your pay, ask your manager.

asking here over and over again won't get you a different answer. follow my advice from the last one and call the hr supervisor at work. It is his/her job to keep you informed on stuff like this.

No difference. The thing is, while some would take it as a joke, he obviously feels harassed. I don't think you will get your pay back.
