Ok, is there something I'm missing here? I think Brian Sabean's gone off over the deep end. First the Zito signing, then this. I'm not a Giants fan, but I can't believe that they'd even consider moving Tim Lincecum. Lincecum has absolutely ridiculous stuff and I would be surprised if he didn't win multiple Cy Youngs. All he needs is stay healthy and gain experience. I know the Giants need hitting, but still you don't trade a pitcher with as good as Lincecum.

As for the Blue Jays, I think this trade would vault them into immediate contention even in the AL East. You combine Lincecum with Halladay, who might be the most underappreciated pitcher in baseball, you have something real special there.

Lincecum is an amazing pitcher and Rios is NO WHERE near the value for him. It have been schocked to read over the past few days that this was even an option on the table. The Blue Jays have got to be secretly smiling in the background but don't want to give the secret away. This could go down as one of the most lop-sided trades in the history of the game. The Giants need Tim more than anything else right now. Lincecum should command a value as high as Phil Hughes. Sabean is showing that he is one of the worst GMs in the game time and time again. He needs to be fired ASAP before he can run the Giants into the ground anymore than he already has. As of this point they have no farm system, no top 50 prospects, an aging team w/ no talent, and no offense, an average pitching staff w/ a couple of young guys who can develop. They need to build around their pitching and not trade it away. If this deal goes down... the Giants are buried in the NL West for the next 5 years.

Sucks to be a Giants fan.

Also, I owned Lincecum on my fantasy team and I also watched him "very closely" and he had a hot couple of games and then went through his rookie learning curve, only to bounce back and be VERY consistent the 2nd half of the year. Don't listen to guy fantasy guy above me (check my fantasy stats) I dominate baseball every year. What the guy above failed to mention is that Timmy pitched winter ball as well, so he had well over 170+ total plus innings last year. For him to say "he didn't go a whole season" is a downright LIE. Tim has shown to be able to throw a heavy workload at his young age. The only problem is that - did they ask him to throw too many too soon? I think w/ a skipped start here or there, and a strict pitch count, Tim will develop into that #1 or 2 starter he is projected to be. Give it about 3 years. Just don't listen to fantasy scrubs giving real life baseball advice on numbers they don't know anything about. Trust me. I never give an answer unless I know I'm 100% correct about it.

My fantasy profile name is mastercah for the proof you need.

It would be a nice boost to an already-strong pitching staff for my Jays, but it would leave an already-hurting offense short of one its best players. I would, though, take pitching any time I could get it.

Rios has really developed into a very good hitter, and he's still got a few years left before free agency. I heard the Jays had actually asked for Matt Cain initially, but the Giants didn't want to make that deal. There's a lot of speculation about how well Lincecum will hold up because of his mechanics, but I'm not expert enough to comment on something like that.

I'm surprised the Giants would make this deal, but it sounds like they're pretty desperate for some quality bats in that lineup.

Is this a done deal? 1 for 1?

Alex Rios is one of the best young hitters in Baseball. He's got a few years of full season play under his belt. As a Yankees fans -- I am NOT sorry to see him leave the Divison. (Check his stats.) It's not that much of a rip-off, when you realize that the SF Giants have very little, by way of middle-order hitting. Rios is a legit #3 hitter, and has a very sweet swing. He may become a power threat, too vs. the weaker NL pitching, especially away from the Boston and NY staffs..

What this might also show, is that Lincecum is thought to NOT be able to go all season.. and the SF Giants feel he wouldn't develop up to his potential -- so, deal him now? Scouts have said his arm & delivery wouldn't stand up to full seasons.. and he didn't, last year. He was projected to be a Closer... I watched Lincecum REALLY CLOSELY last season, because he was on my Yahoo Baseball fantasy team.. and he pitched inconsistently, after a great great start.

I wouldn't call this deal a steal, just yet.

I hate all these yankee fans who think they are going to get lincecum and think that Rios isn't that good. Rios is better than any yankees outfielder and he has great defensive skills.
I'm a jays fan and if they got lincecum they would have a filthy pitching staff and they could just get a free agent outfielder to replace him but a ESPN analyst said a deal will be completed by December 18, 2007.

Trade offer:
Jays get: RHP Tim Lincecum

Giants get: LF Alex Rios and LHP Jesse Litsch

YES, I'm quoting Mark H on this one. And I'm not afraid to admit that either.

"That "Lincecum" guy is a future stud. He had 1 good year in the MLB but also has been a HUGE prospect for a while. Whoever said the Jays pitching will be fine as long as Chacin stays healthy is crazy, Chacin is junk, he had 1 good year that wasn't even that good, and he'll never come close to that again. Pitching wins ball games, decent bats are generally easier to find than solid pitching."

This may be just like the trade involving the Giants and Minnesota a few years back where the reliever traded from SF had an injury resulting in major surgery, but when he recovered, he really kicked some tail for the Twins and helped make them successful!

Hope SF does not make a major mistake like that one.....

I agree that this is a great trade for the Jays, but that said, I can see why SF would be considering it. Rios is proven, he's young and will be a great batter and defensive outfielder for years, and Benji Molina and Randy Winn are the heart of the the SF batting order, lol.

I had to amend this post to make sure Tara [NYY] (Posted below), is brought out as a FAKE. An obvious idiot who has to steal other people's posts from other forums to answer questions. Read her response in this forum and then read a response I posted earlier today in another Yahoo answers post on the same topic....here's the link

as a long time Dodger fan, I hope they make that deal to Toronto. lol. Giants are so desperate to acquire right handed somewhat of power bat to play in that at&t park...and I do like both Linececum and Rios...I wouldn't make that deal if I were the Giants GM....they got lot of shuffling players to do, and yes, they overpaid Zito...makes me wanna barf to think about how much they invested in Zito...he is AL pitcher at best, not NL.

Sounds desperate to me. Rios will be a great hitter but for how long. Lincecum has the chance to be a great pitcher for a long time.

Well I think that Rios is really good, but I do agree with you because the Giants need pitching as much as they need as hitting.
