Religious freedom was jeopardized by the introduction of the "Constitution Restoration Act of 2004" that was reintroduced in near-identical form in 2005. So far it's gone nowhere, but if introduced again and adopted in the 110th or a later Congress, it would turn the US into a de facto theocracy.

Dominionists like Pat Robertson and others support the bill as do influential sponsoring members of both Houses. Their goal is simple, but they won't admit it - tear down the sacred wall between church and state so the US can be governed by their extremist Christian dogma. It would make believers of other faiths lawbreakers with their version of Christian canon the new law of the land - a very scary prospect for about 75 million non-Christians in the country and many of Christian faith who won't go along.

Please be aware of this bill and write your congressperson to oppose this bill if it ever comes up for vote!!

Congress may pass it but the supreme court would slap it down. Congress would need to amend the constitution to be able to limit the powers of the supreme court in this way. A law cannot do it. The supreme court would just say that the law is unconstitutional (which it is).

Here is a link to the proposed law.

I wish there was something in the constitution that provided punishment for any lawmaker that helped pass a law that is later deemed unconstitutional. It would be very helpful in keeping them from doing stuff like this.

what a bunch of whiney dolts. Even the declaration referenced our creator. Every last one of the founders were religious. every last one prayed . The fact that the constitution is based on Judeo Christian Laws gives you the right to sit and whine about Christianity. If you dont like the fact this is a Christian based country, go somewhere else. All you seperationists have never read the letter written by Jefferson to a church group to give you your little rant. The term separation of church and state appears nowhere in the constitution of the U.S. or the Bill of Rights. stupid athiests Your heros must be Lenin, Hitler, Stalin and Tung. After all socialism and communism are godless political states!

This is scary. This country is not a Christian Country and was never meant to be. Refer people to the Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11. It states, in no uncertain terms, that this is not a Christian nation. We must stop this chicanery before it even gets to the Supreme Court.

The marriage of church and state is scary because if there is a adm. in the future or as now status quo ie; Bush there is a fear out there that if you dont go along with state sponsered religion you could be persecuted whatever the denomination. So yes one adm. may be "christian/judeo but what if the next adm. is druidic wiccan and/or pagan adm. for example. Now we face a fascist style of gov.we are not a theocracy.

It's once again; the problem with organised religion. Believing in God on a personal level is fine, but as an institution religion can become very dangerous.

People must be aware of this.
