What's the meaning behind "Into the night" by Benny Mardones?

I love the song but it can come across as somewhat "perverted" Is it between a teacher and a student?..where he knows he cannot have her as she is only 16?...Is it a true story that he is telling of himself..just curious.thank you

It seemed a little perverted to me..I had a friend who was dating a 15 yr old (he was 32), and I would sing the song several times, dropping the age a year at a time..untill I got to."she was 12 yrs old..leave her alone..they say.." It would drive him up the wall. What was odd, and if a person subscribes to the idea that sex with a minor is wrong, (I guess it's okay for a 17 to have sex with a 13 yr old as often as possible..happens all the time), was that her mother would take her shopping to Victoria's Secret for a seductive outfit for her and help her pack for the 3 day weekends to the coast (california). As it is..I live in a rural community and there are "few" catches and the guy had money..guess the mom was hoping the girl would marry "up". The phrase "into the night", to me, means that they go off into the night and do the dirty deed, because he was going to show her a love she's never known...What a freak.

The story behind the song is that Benny Mardones lived across the hall from a family with a single mom and 2-3 teenagers who was abandoned by their father. So the kids were distraught and to help them through it, Benny would give each kid a job for $50 a week (ie. Asking the boy to get him cigarettes, milk, etc and the 16 year old girl walk his dog before school). One of the guys who was recording with Benny was in his apartment when the 16 year old walked in one morning and the guy said "Oh my god". Benny told him "She's just 16 years old, leave her alone." and they wrote and made the song that way.
