although most wars have been started over religion, greed, territory or a combination of the three, it has been human nature to quarrel and try to kill each other off for almost as long as there have been humans on the earth. I like the way George carlin said it "do you believe in god? no. Bang, Do you believe in god? yes. Do you believe in my god? no. Bang. My god has a bigger gun than your god." If we ever decided to quit playing the game of war we would be gods. when will we grow up?

Of what religion was Stalin, Hitler or Mao Tse Tung?

What religion started the Vietnam war? I thought that it had something to do with the supposed attack against the USS Maddox. Who benefited? Google "Kellogg, Brown and Root, Vietnam"

Oddly enough, Brown and Root is a division of Halliburton, one of the primary financial beneficiaries of the Iraq war.

So I believe that the original question should be rephrased to: Who benefits financially from most wars?

Identify who benefits from war, and most of the time you will identify the cause.

You could also google: Prescott Bush profiteer, or George H.W. Bush, Carlyle Group for some rather revealing information on how the Bush Dynasty has benefited financially from several wars.

But, in essence, I stand by my original statement, "Identify who benefits from war, and most of the time you will identify the cause."

Religion, politics and greed in that order. Religion was the cause of many of the earliest conflicts; the need to subjugate others to ones beliefs and domination of populations for slaves or land expansion could be considered political then greed. One has minerals ,raw materials, gold, silver so another will want it which is greed. One might also include vengance under the banner of political. " Do unto others as they did unto you"

Mostly money. The whole communism scare was based on America's fear of its loss of control of other nations. National independence is feared because then countries will develop without following neoliberal policies that doom them. Look at all the first world countries--they protected their economies and isolated themselves from foreign exploitation. There is one world government based on "free market" ideology, which allows foreign corporations to exploit nations for their resources. Some latin american countries are avoiding this as well as those countries that initiate the policies (mostly the US). Basically, the world's superpower--the US--is the main cause of war and turmoil in this world. We rule as bullies and by the principle of might makes right.

Politics causes most wars, everyone should mind their own business, but let's face it it's not going to happen so we'll just live the way we live. We're the little people who have nothing to say when it comes to war.

Religion, no question. More people have been killed over religious differences than any other cause in human history.

Missunderstanding and mistakes
People that can't admit they are wrong.
In short egos.

It was the ego of King of England who push the colonies into revolution.

It was the ego of South that got us into Civil War

The list go on and as long as their are people with egos their will be war.
