After setting, the sun left a trail of blood in the sky.
This simile describes a red sunset; can you do any better?
thanks

Personally I don't like the metaphor because to me a sunset is soft and gentle and comparing it to a trail of blood makes it something else.

After setting, the sun left a rosy blush in the sky.
After setting, the sun left a spendid bouquet of red roses in the sky.

It's not a simile (a simile uses 'like' or 'as' to compare).

The sun set, dragging a red cape behind it like a Countess exiting a darkened theater stage.
