My sister-in-law is due Dec 13. I was thinking of getting her a gift certificate for a massage for christmas. I found a spa that is close to where she lives, I thought it would be a thoughtful gift, knowing that she will be really tired and want some time away from the baby after she is born. There are plenty of people that would love to watch the baby, too. including her husband.

Is that a good gift, or should I go with something else?

That's a great gift. Everyone else will give gift for the child. Sometimes we forget the poor mother. God know after labor she will need it. That is soooo thoughtfull

It's a great gift for most new moms. I, however, cried hysterically when I had to run to the pharmacy without the baby when he was 4 weeks old. I never wanted to leave him. I guess I had just a MILD case of post-partum-depression:) An hour massage would not have been worth it to me to leave him.

It's very thoughtful. Good job SIL:)

honestly, its great gift but make sute it doesnt have an expiration date on it. i dont know if you have any children but i had my son 8 months ago and i also have a spa gift but i have yet to use it- i breastfeed and everything i pump is to be saved for work and its just too difficult. plus, some people just dont even want to leave their baby with just anyone, even if they know them very well, it sstill hard so it may take some time- make sure it has no expiration

This would be great. I always give the mom something since the baby gets so many gifts.

I think it's a very thoughtful gift. She doesn't have to use it right away... might be tough for her to leave her two week old, even if only for a couple hours.

I think it's a great gift, but make sure she doesn't feel pressured to leave her baby before SHE feels ready to do so.

Yes, that gift, I'm sure would be much appreciated. People usually put so much emphasis on getting things for the baby that they forget about us poor mothers. =) lol We appreciate to be pampered and refreshed after the journey of childbirth.

She probably won't want to be away from the baby at first, so maybe get a giftcard to somewhere babies are welcome?

Or make sure the giftcard doesn't expire, so she can use it later.
