Friday I went to the hospital with painful contractions. I wasn't in labor and was only 50% effaced with no dilation. I have been that way for awhile.
Monday I had a doctors appointment. I went in and was 60% effaced and 1/2 cm dilated. The baby was also in -2 position. They had me go back today (Thursday) to recheck.
Today I am 80% effaced, 1 cm dilated and the baby is in -1 position..
I understand that there is no way to predict when labor is going to happen. My concern is if I have not went into labor by next Thursday they want to induce me. Does anyone have experience in this and what do you think the odds are of this happening for me naturally in a week? I am 38wks 5 days today. Thanks

Well at the rate your going it could be soon. i was induced with my 2nd at 38 weeks for a medical reason and i actually found it better coz, although contractions start of stronger (in natural labour they start mild and get stronger) it was over alot quicker. my 1st labour was 36 hours and my 2nd was only 6 hours. if they do induce you i wouldnt worry its no more painful than doing it naturally just doesnt last as long (the majority of the time). All the best!

I was induced two times. the first time i was given pitocin for 13 hours and never went into labor. the second time i started having mild contractions after a couple of hours but real labor did not hit me until the dr broke my water bag. induced labor is usually harder than natural labor and can take a lil longer. most dr's wont let you labor over 14-24 hours because it can then start to cause stress on the baby too.
you have good chance of going on your own before then , especially if you do things to try to help spped it up. you can burn sage, have sex with your partner and/ or walk... walk a lot. good luck and congrats!

I was 39 weeks 1cm dilated and 70% effaced when I was induced with my first child. I had her 7 hrs later. It was a very unexpectedly "easy" process. My doctor broke my water and then started my on pitocin and then I had an epideral at 5cm dilated.

I feel you. I am 40 weeks and my doc wants to induce next week. During my last exam I was .5cm dilated and my cervix was no where near ripe/soft. I have no way of telling your odds about going into labor naturally. I'm still hoping it happens for me because I don't want to be induced. Good luck to you. They say sex, walking, nipple stimulation, evening Primrose oil can help start labor but none of these things have worked for me so far.

They won't induce unless you are 2 or 3 cm. And there is no way of telling. My doctor scheduled my induction on a monday for that tuesday night but he really thought that I'd deliver before then, Nope. And even with induction I will didn't deliver until 27 hours later. Everybody bodies are different.

I was induced at 41 weeks and 3 days and was 1cm dialeted at the time. 36 hours later and in lots of pain i had my little girl.
The baby will come when it's ready, don't rush it
