Romney tried to shut down gay marriage in Massachusetts till the day he left as Governor.
Can gay friendly people vote for this man in good conscience?

Forever.

Isn't it interesting that an anti-Mormon bigot is accusing the Mormon of being an anti-gay bigot?

Gays are entitled to the same rights as straights, in my opinion. This is guaranteed by the Constitution. They are entitled to the rights granted by civil unions.

But "marriage" is not a right, it's a word. The Constitution does not guarantee that the definition of a word can be changed to suit a particular group.

So fight for your rights, but not for the word!

Vote for Rudy!

EDIT: And if you ever bothered to READ the Constitution, you'd know that the president couldn't change it, if he wanted to.

Romney won't change the Constitution - the President can't do that. In fact, the President doesn't even have a vote in the process for amending the Constitution. There isn't going to be an anti-gay marriage amendment. Even if it passed Congress, which is unlikely, it wouldn't pass enough states to become law.

However, Romney would certainly be hostile to gay rights, and wouldn't sign any law allowing legal recognition for civil unions or gay marriages.

???

The president CAN'T change the Constitution. Try reading it, the requirements for ammending it are written in there, clear as day.

(I don't like Romney, in case you're wondering. But there's no reason to make up insane lies to defeat him.)

A president doesn't have the power to change the constitution. It takes massive support from congress and the states to do that.

But, I am glad to know that he has a history of protecting traditional marriage.

Hillary is against gay marriage as well.

A direct Hillary quote "Marriage is between a man and a woman-ONLY"

For those of you who are not concerned with his stance on gay rights: human rights in general affect every one of us. 100 years ago, women and "coloreds" did not have equal rights to white men. What's the difference with the gay issue. It makes me very angry that the mormon church does not even acknowledge homosexuality, and sees it as something to repress, like a sin. The real sin is judging others for lifestyle choices. Shouldn't we be more concerned with gangs, violence, and education? What two people decide to do with their own lives is not up to me. I know many young mormons, and I'm fine with that lifestyle...for them. I would rather not have the leader of the free world believe in 1950s-style ethics. That's a HUGE step back for EVERYONE.

the thing about being gay is that you do not have to let anybody know , so shut your gay azz up (no pun) and just be an American I think you'll be just fine. and marriage is one man+one woman

he handed out gay pride fliers with john kerry before he went for the republican nomination - his stance today is against it but he may be for it who knows and your guess is as good mine - that is why I wont vote for him because you really have no Idea where he stands with such a contradictory record across the board -the same goes for giuliani. thompson has played both sides of the fence and mccain always seems to be defending himself from bad decisions -

Sounds like he's kind of screwed. He ticked off the Christian right for being Mormon (this despite the fact that Mormons are Christians), now he is ticking off the gay left for being Christian (despite the fact almost no Christian considers Mormon to be Christian).

I like a good argument, maybe I sould become Mormon. Looks like everybody hates those guys.
