The Scot, Robert Burns, acknowledged in the Encyclopaedia Britannica as the greatest songwriter that Britain has ever produced, showed his respect for womens rights in an address, "The Rights of Woman", in 1792 - i.e. at a time when all the world's attention seemed to be focussed on the rights of MAN.
In it Burns mentions three rights that he thought belong to any woman:
To be protected
To be respected
To be loved and cherished
He ends the address with the words:
"Ah! ca ira! The Majesty Of Woman!"
In my youth, I remember a Scotland whose society was as paternalistic as any other but one where the woman of the house usually "held the purse strings". For men, the change to a more feminist society seemed very threatening at the time but the movement has come a long way and had such positive effects. Women already have more freedom and I believe that both men and women are now happier as a result. Long may it continue!

and scottish men do not wear skirts. highlanders wear kilts . they also live in the cold cold higlands and throw giant telephone poll sized logs around for fun.for a time kilts were outlawed by the english because they were considered a symbol of rebellion. folks that lived in the lowlands and wore pants were the ones that were considered soft.

Yes, they force their men to wear skirts as an act of submission. They also have some very scary women such as KT Tunstall, Kirsty Wark and Mr Gordon Bean.

I think it has nothing to do with it. You will find that most of those names and most female names are a derivative of male names. Any way this is what I found
McBeth
Scottish: Anglicization of Gaelic Mac Beatha ‘son of life’, i.e. ‘man of religion’, used as a personal name. Compare McAbee.

'Mac' means 'son of'. So M'cLellan means, Son of Lellan. The line of descent is traced through the male line, so that's not a feminist tradition! There are no female names used in surnames that I know of. ('Beth' is not a female first name in this instance.)
