Leave it to protect the bread. And after a day or so do you reach past the first few slices to get to the "good bread?"
Hi Tim-cute hat!

I use it to protect the other bread slices. But just in case someone might eat it, I'll not throw it away. You'll find 5-6 bread bags with just the heels sitting on the counter until I'm tired of digging around them. I'll then take them outside and let the squirrels fight to the death for the moldy old scraps.

I leave the heel there to protect the loaf from drying out. Good question!

I like to put gravy on them and feed them to the kids. Bread doesn't stay in this house very long. There are too many hobos and hookers that come in and out here.

I leave it there! and if I get to really needing bread that i'll use it, otherwise, i put peanut butter on it, and feed it to the squirrels.

I leave it to keep the bread safe and sound, then I throw them away or feed the birds. :)

Sometimes I save it, other times I eat it. The end pieces do nicely for the mouse sandwiches.
