Yes, and notice that the legal right to own and carry firearms provided absolutely no protection for anybody at that mall.
It only provided the means to kill them.

It is sad that this boy thinks taking out others is a way of solving his problem. Losing your job at Mcdonalds is pretty low, he should feel ashamed. He should've just taken out himself, and things would've been much calmer in Nebraska, rather than him going to the mall during one of the busiest shopping seasons, and terrorizing others.
It's also sad that his legacy is that he killed 8 people, and injured more. If he felt that by going on a spree will make him famous, he should've realized how short America's attention span is, and that in a couple of months or so, we'll be talking about something else.

I live in Omaha, so yes-I have heard about it. It is VERY sad. I am heartbroken for the families that have lost loved ones due to this coward's actions. But unfortunately, he has slipped through the cracks and could have been stopped. He had made threats a couple weeks ago and was even arrested but they let him go. He was a very sick person (mentally) and unfortunately-Nebraska closed all mental health/psych facilities. There is no place for someone to go that NEEDS professional treatment as an inpatient anymore. We have mainstreamed psych illnesses and they have become so acceptable that now no one actually realizes, hey, I am depressed and thoughts of killing others and suicide is not normal, i need help.

I find it frightening to think that he thought killing others and himself would give him fame. It makes me think maybe we ought to be monitoring all these TV shows, movies, games that glorify crime and violence. It also tells me that we need to stop being so complacent about all these "nice" places while being overfocused on the exotic "other" that people tend to fear and loathe. Isn't it interesting that people take swift and decisive action when it's a racial minority that is wielding that weapon but if it's white teens or a woman, they're more to be pitied then censured? Pretty messed up if you ask me.

I found it sad that he and his friends showed the gun to the friends mother the day before.... And she assumed it was to old to work and did nothing about it...Like it was no biggie they had it in the first place..
Not to say something wouldn't happen still in the future but if she had only taken the gun away from them and sought professional help this might not have happened. With his troubled past he shouldn't have had a gun in his possession.
