You have to go to your local Council offices to get a form to fill in. Get 2 passport size photos of yourself and write your signature on the back of them. It costs £2 to be issued with a blue badge and they last for 3 years. It will have to be renewed after the 3rd year and you'll need 2 more photos unless you haven't changed much since you had the last one done (passport photos come in 4's so you could use the 2 remaining). It costs £2 every time too. If you have a local traffic warden like we have then you will be seriously restricted to where you can park coz ours seems to have it in for people with disabled badges! Some municipal car parks are free to blue badge holders and some aren't so be careful when you go anywhere to double check whether you have to pay or not. When you get your blue badge you'll get a booklet that explains where you can and can't park eg double yellow lines.
Have you got a RADAR key for using public toilets coz you can get one of those from the local council too. When we got ours it cost £2.50 but it may be more now. This is a one off payment. It can sometimes be very difficult using public toilets which makes it easier to be able to use a disabled persons toilet. These facilities are free.
NEVER lend your blue badge and timer to a friend or relative...this is against the law and you can get a fine if you get caught (plenty of people get caught for doing this!) and you will lose the use of your badge and never be allowed to apply for one again. Hope this has been useful information.

It would help if you listed your disability. To get a badge you have to actually NEED one, meaning you need to have a disability, or be transporting someone with a disability who for physical or mental reasons alike, needs to be able to park closer to the building or have the extra space near the car.

Sort out a Blue Badge with the local council. You may also qualify for free road tax. Remember a blue badge is not a licence to park anywhere you like, you can still get parking tickets, and not every car park in every town (even municipal ones) is in the scheme. Blue badges won't get you free parking on Blackpool multi-storeys, for example.

Priority is given to physical disabilities. If (like me) you have other disabilities you must ask yourself this question Do I really need a privileged parking place or should I walk that 100 yards from the car park?

To automatically qualify for a blue badge you have to be in receipt of the higher rate of disability living allowance for mobility. If you are not you have to contact your local council who will ask you to prove that you are either unable to walk more than a few yards or that you are so severely mentally impaired that it would be unsafe for you to walk very far.

In Norfolk it is the County Council in Norwich that issue them now. Not the DVLA they just collect money. It used to be social service so any of there offices will have the correct address if you ask.
Oh and they don't work in the City of London or Westminster nor is about half of Camden mainly the southern half there you have to have a badge direct from one of them

You need to speak with your Local Council about the Blue badge. They are the Authority who provides them.
[ PS: Those who write re 'your local DMV' seem to assume you are an American in America ]

Can you walk? I'm disabled. My disability stops me from working. I get SSI. And I can Walk. So I can't get a special parking space. To get a badge, you have to be recomended by your doctor saying you are too disabled to walk long distances or wheel in a wheelchair for long distances. Goodluck.

If a doctor says you are too disabled to work, then you should get one from the Social Service office or DMV. Take a doctor's note with you.

Go to your local Secretary state office and ask for the papers to get a handicap parking thing. Then go to your doctor, have him fill it out, go back to the Secretary of state office and get it
