In my 16 yr old sons room, I found a condom. Shouldnt I confront him about it or should I just leave it? I am glad he is wearing a condom but worried that he is having sex. By the way, the condom wrapper was open, it was in the trash.

I had the whole real sex talk when he was 10 and a half. But now that he is having sex it is different.

let him know that you found it and that you're glad he's using protection, make sure he knows you weren't snooping through his trash though lol.. let him know if he has any questions he can go to you and ask you and you'll be as open and honest as possible, and if he ever needs condoms to let you know and help him get them.. chances are if he's already having sex he's going to continue doing so and like you said you're glad he's wearing a condom so make it as easy as possible for him to continue doing so

It sounds to me as though he is having sex, and in his room in your home no less.
Nowadays, 16 yrs old is way past due to have the sex talk. I would tell him you found the wrapper while emptying the trash, and you are proud of him being responsible.
HOWEVER, as said before, condoms break. If you can't handle the possibilty of a child, don't risk it. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, so to speak.
Of course, whatever moral beliefs you have about premarital sex/use of birth control needs to be discussed at this point, if it hasn't been already.
But you know, once a 16 year old boy has started having sex, he will never stop no matter what you do. The more you would protest, the more he will do it.

I think that you should definitely talk to your son about it. Explain to him that no forms of birth control are 100% safe (I know first-hand). Also explain to him the emotional complications that come along with taking a relationship to that level. Things change immediately in a relationship whether you want them to or not. You don't have to tell him not to have sex, because that won't work anyway, but rather you should make sure that he understands all of the implications so that he can decide when it is ok under certain conditions such as how serious he is with the girl, how serious he wants to be (because it will get more serious afterwards), and the risks that he is taking. I would even talk to him about his and your opinions on abortion, because that is something that you need to think about BEFORE you are in the thick of it, so that you don't make an emotionally rash decision. This will also serve to bring home the reality of what he is doing.

Well, just because you found the condom, doesn't mean he is having sex. He could have just been screwing around with it, IE trying it on, masturbating with it on, etc.
It never hurts to have a father son talk with your son at this age. If he is having sex don't freak out on him. Kids are different these days. If he is having sex encourage him to use condoms and encourage him to have the girl he is having sex with get on birth control.
Good luck.

You should have had this talk with him long ago. I would say that he is having sex. You should talk to him about it but I would not do it in a confrontational way. Have a discussion and see what is going on with him. Tell him that you are glad that he used protection. Make sure he knows what he is doing.
