What do you want to know? I lived there for a long time and have travelled there almost every year for the last 18 years now. It is a second home to me, specifically Weimar, Germany.
I think it is a wonderful place and country now and they have come a long way since their grandparents! It has so many beautiful Castles, buildings, streets, night clubs, bier, bratwurst, oktoberfest or Zweibal Mark, Christmas Markt and many others.
Why do you ask?
(Caroline und Ur? Wo bist du in Deutschland?

I'm an Army brat and I was raised in Germany, lived there for 16 years. I love the culture and the language and the people. Despite what others feel, I think the German people are very friendly! The food and the beer, especially, are great. There is so much history to be learned....I used to live in Nuremburg, about three blocks from the stadium where Hitler used to give his speeches. It's now one of the places where they hold the bi-yearly fest (Carnival)......Almost every city has some typ of Christmas market where they have many kiosks with different items for sale, as well as food and drinks to keep you going. The Hot chocolate is great, and in the winter, you can also find Gluehwein, which is wine warmed up, helps you fight the brisk winter cold! And I can't forget about Oktoberfest! ;-)
Most importantly, I feel Germany is a great place to raise children...something about the country just makes you feel safer than here in the states...just my opinion!!!!

The country is beautiful and clean. The people, unlike their stereotype, are very friendly and very very good towards you when trying to speak their language, no matter what mistakes you make. The individual towns are amazing, I've only been to Hamburg and Munich but I have heard from loads of people I know about other towns and Germany is definitely somewhere worth visiting. They have the best milkshake in the world! Muenster = yummeeeee. And I know I can't wait till I live there for a year when I have to for University!
EDIT = I also love my German men I do and Germany has some of the hottest men in world, Richard Kruspe number one! And Sebastian Koch, Thomas Kretschmann and Markus Kavka :) I know, terrible ain't I?

As I am a vocalist in a German Band.........though I am not German........
Germany is a land just a land but what makes it so special are its people.......... Different from all Europe.....
One Cold Saturday Night I came out alone in a road in Stuttgart & it was merely empty maybe I was in country..........usually Europeans cities are known for their nightlife but Germany is unique in its own way........
Great Beer...............Beautiful Woman= Heidi Klum.........Great country who has forgotten its past & is heading towards future but nobody knows what is heading for Germany........
A country on the league of its own........you can escape cars of Germany, women of Germany but can never escape its beer..........one of the best beer in the world you can ever drink.
Though Germany is not for its wine but wait a minute German wines are getting greatly recognised nowadays............Germans wines in today's standard are very competitive though not much as French Bordeaux but still it is capable of challenging Chiantini & Carou.........!
Good Luck! Take lots of mufflers & jackets there are quite expensive so you better buy it at home.........

I know Berlin is nice, but I don't know much about the rest of Germany... Someone once told me it's nice, but I wouldn't know for sure. I might leave Berlin one day to find out for myself. I know it's there and I think it's nice although it's kinda far away.....

Empress_: do you know Germany, have you even been there? Half of what you said is bogus. they just dont bring it to the public half the stuff, WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY.. we think highly of our county, German flags are not everywhere cuz we know where we live. the Flag is an american pride thing. Germany is a great country, people are nice and friendly, direct but nice. A lot of history, my hometown just turned 1000 years old, America is not even 300 years old.
Germany is a "free" country, look at all the cultures we have, our Jobs suck, but thats ok, We have the best highways and best cars, food and Beer.
hey empress, if you read this please email me so we can talk about it... thanks

- Milder winters & summers than Upstate NY.
- Kids learn about the events leading up to WWII in excruciating detail in school.
- There is no word for "if".
- Men wear underwear that look like women's panties do in the US.
- People there don't know how to flirt.
- It's difficult to find Pepsi products.
- There is no word for "geek".
- PhD students don't get to choose their advisors.
- Winter daylight hours are extremely short (and summer days extremely long).
- Backpacks are really well-made.
- Chocolate frequently has hazelnuts in it.
- There are a lot of Turkish people, who are considered a problem.
- People drive really fast and tailgate like it's going out of style.
- Germans tend to have a low opinion of their own country.
- Surprisingly much of the music on the radio has English lyrics.
- You see more German flags in the US.
- Lower divorce rate, violent crime, teen pregnancy and abortion rates than the US.
- Higher unemployment than the US.
- Low birth rate.
- A lot of bike-riding. By US standards.
- Very heavy bread.
- They put tuna on pizza.
- Cars are very small.
.... etc.
EDIT: Randy, I don't know where you got the idea I was saying Germany was a bad country, or that the US was somehow superior for having more flags, etc. In fact, you just said yourself "we don't have flags everywhere".
I also said several things that are unquestionably positive (low crime rates, etc). The Germans I know, however, have a low opinion of Germany. Why are you so touchy?
