Why would it be wrong ? You're really lucky if you have sympathetic and supportive girl pals :-)
No ones going to give you better advice on clothes, make up, hair, and what suits you best than a genetic girl !
But don't expect them to co-operate with any desires to wear kinky, slutty or too young, or too "girly" stuff ....
You see lots of novice TVs who clearly don't have a clue ....
.... girls have grown up and lived their entire lives experimenting with clothes, cosmetics and styles to find what suits them best (and not without making mistakes - check out some young teenagers !) ... it can be learned but it takes time !
I still admire the way women can just walk through a store and instantly know what will work on them .... I still end up rejecting most of the stuff I go into changing rooms with, although I do have a good eye for what works once I see it on me !

There is a lot to be said for getting help from your female friends. I found some help from some female friends myself and it has been very valuable.
If you want to pass as a woman, then they are perhaps the est place to start. Co-ordinating clothes and wearing the right things is an art men do not have the know-how for.
This is why I always try things on in the shop now. Some things I instantly know will be good on me, but I need to be sure of the cut. Other items look wonderful on the hanger, but terrible on me, so back they go.
Wearing what is right for your age is so important if you want to avoid the hassle in the street. In one film I recall a scene where a girl was told that you can never wear enough blue eye shadow. This is IMHO definitely a bad idea.
Everyone has a different skin colour, body shape, face shape, etc.. Clothes & makeup need to be tuned to your personal appearance as well as the style you wish to project.

It's not wrong to ask gal pals for advice on how to be more feminine, they're the best ones to as for advise & some of the will probably love to help you dress-up as a gir & even give you some of their old clothes. Plus, there are many websites that can help you with your feminization, here are a few links:
The Breastform Store: http://www.thebreastformstore.com/
Classic Curves: http://www.clcrv.com/
Suddenly Fem: http://www.crossdresser.com/index.asp
Michael Salem's Boutique: http://www.michaelsalem.com/

I think the problem with getting guidance on feminization from other transvestites it that they will advise you on what has worked for them which may not be what will work for you. So your best bet is a real woman who can teach you some of the things she was taught. I find the vast majority of ladies are very interested in transvestites and there are of course professionals who you can go to for help.
