I am going to purchase my mother a massage for Christmas. I have never had a massage (I have issues with strangers touching me), but my mother has had many and loves them. I do not want to ask her what kind she likes the most, as I would like to keep it a surprise. I plan on getting her one from an Aveda spa here in town, They have the regular massage that says they infuse different techniques, but they also have the stone massage. Has anyone had this (the stone massage)? Did you like it? Anything you would recommend would be appreciated. TY.

Since your Mom's experienced regular massage, go with the "hot stone" massage. This one consists of heated smooth stones that are used by the therapist on pressure points along the body. It is one of the most soothing experiences, especially during the colder months.

Massage is a great option and one size fits all! (Hope you can get past your own issues to experience the benefits one day). Hot stone massage is a good option. The heat is applied gradually. The heat from the stones can be quite relaxing. I personally would rather have the range of motion that comes from a typical sports massage, but that's just me. You may also want to look into wraps such as an aromatherapy wrap. The oils used can be specialized to the effect that is wanted from the massage. Hope your mother and you enjoy your Christmas.

Go for the one hour Swedish massage, you can't go wrong. The hot stone massage is basically heated stones places throughout the body and leaving them there for the heat to penetrate the muscle. Some massage therapist don't do a lot of massage with this technique. The Swedish massage pressure can be adjusted to the comfort level of your mother. Swedish massage is used for basic stress relief and relief of mussel tension. Everyone loves a massage, so I'm sure your mother will love what ever you decide. She can always upgrade the massage when she makes her appointment, if she wants.

I had a stone massage once a few years ago, and it was fabulous. So relaxing and soothing, all my troubles just melted away! I'd highly recommend it.

Or, as already suggested, you could try a general voucher type-thing, so she can choose for herself.

buy her a gift cirificate for the most expensive massage you are willing to buy, this way if she wants that one great but if she wants a cheaper on she can use the diffrence to buy some lotions or facial creams from the spa

If i were you i would just try and keep it as random as possible. If they do gift certificates then just put down as much as you can and want to, and let her pick which one she wants.
