Because of the volcanic activity there is a lot of hot water in the ground in Iceland. We use that hot water to heat buildings (including green houses, which makes it possible for us to grow vegetables and fruits all year round, despite the climate) and we use the steam to make electricity. Hot groundwater and steam are very environmental friendly energy sources and they are renewable energy.
We also use the hot water for our famous geothermal pools, which are great for the health.

geothermal activity plays a major role. infact reykjavik the capital of iceland is under the control of geothermal activity. geyers, hot springs and hot rocks are an adavntage as their steam produces electiricity to power some parts of the nation.
Iceland is one of the most volcanically active places on earth and sits on the mid atlantic ridge which is pulling appart and releasing the pressure as magma rises and a plume is feeding all of the volcanoes and volcanic landforms. this is a vital prospect, because geothermal acticity can be made, it is natural and won't effect the environment,it is also cheaper and is always available, however this is not always the case., recent studies have shown that the people of iceland is by extracting the steam from the geysers it is lowering their chance of producing any more steam and water because geysers and hot springs need water to become active. so therefore the geothermal activity is shortlived. but despite that fact, geothermal activity is the way in which the power of iceland is diverted into electricity to power the nation in a cheap and effective way!
