Considering the fact that once the tree is cut down it is essentially dead, yes the needles will fall off.

The needles falling off is natural and will happen even to the freshest tree. If you ever been to a tree farm where they have a tree shaker you would see that even a tree still in the ground looses quite a few needles when shaken. However, you can slow the process by keeping the tree watered and you usually have to check the water level a couple times a day because some trees just sponge it up. This will not only slow the dying process, but it will also aid in the prevention of fire. Try giving it a good shake and then keep water in the stand.
Good Luck

A small amount of needle drop is normal, but you should not be able to easily pull green needles off of a fresh cut tree. Here is what you should look for when selecting a fresh cut tree:

- Needles should be a healthy green; not browning.
- Needles should be flexible.
- Needles should not drop from the branches when you run your hand over the branches.
- Pick-up and drop the tree on its butt end; only inner needles should drop from the tree.

Always re-cut the butt end just before you set the tree into the stand. Fill the stand with pure water (research has shown that pure water works just as well as any of the home remedies people like to pass on). Keep the water above the cut. If water is allowed to drop below the cut end, resin (sap) can collect and plug the cut end requiring you to re-cut.

The needles do fall off. Some trees drop them faster than others . Needle fall is also affected by how long the tree has been laying around cut and without water. Best case is to get a fresh tree and keep it watered in the stand.

No. You bought a dried out tree. Always pull on the needles before you buy a tree.

It's more likely if the tree is dry. Be sure to keep the trunk in water. This will also prevent the risk of a fire.
