it shows that the player has communicating abilities with their coach. only one player on the team can have it, and its always the QB who has it, of course.

You've "noticed" this all season but are only now asking what it is? Somehow you missed what it signifies this entire season and you also missed the drop down list of questions asked about the green dot in Y!Answers, which would have given you about 1000 of the exact same questions?
For the last time (though it won't be because more jerks are gonna ask this same ****ing question) it signifies that the guy with the green dot gets plays called in from his offensive coordinator or coach or who ever calls the plays.

It's probably one of the best ideas in the history of mankind. It tells everyone else that the guy with that sticker hears voices that no one else does. Fortunately, it's the head coach's voice coming over the intercom.
Now if we could just get green stickers on the backs of everyone else's head who hears voices that no one else does, it'd be easier to figure out who the whackos are.

The officials put it there before every game because they have a bet going to see how long this question will be asked. So far, it has lasted way longer than any of them expected.
